Do You Want To Stand Out In The Crowd?

It is an amazing thing that in a world where everybody wants to be noticed, very few know how to do anything about it. So much time and money is spent on ‘fitting in’; too little time is actually spent ‘standing out’.

I live in a very beautiful part of the English countryside. There are times in the year when it’s absolutely wonderful stepping into a field carpeted with yellow flowers. I may stand and stare for a few moments, intensely appreciating the work of the Creator, but while I see them all, I don’t see any ONE.
But what if among all those flowers, on that canvas of yellow, a single stroke of purple should sway in the gentle breeze? Where would my eyes be drawn? I think towards that purple flower, don’t you? The vase of yellow may be stunning, but it’s the single blossom of purple that catches the eye.

Now translate that field of colour, to the field of your own experience. It may be your home, your workplace or your school. It is natural to want to make a mark in any of these, to stand out among the crowd, to draw attention…to be attractive.

The American humorist Sam Levenson provides some very wise counsel to any who may be attempting to stand out in the crowd:

“For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For Lovely Eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a Slim Figure, share your food with the hungry.
For Beautiful Hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For Poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.”
